Dr. Judith Pinson Sortet

Dr. Judith Pinson Sortet, 82, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Monday, April 15th, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House.  You are invited to join her family in celebrating her remarkable life on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at 1:00 at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Dustin McCune officiating.  The family will receive friends at noon preceding the service.

Judy was born in Huntington, WV, on October 9th, 1941, the only child of the late Frank & Dorothy Pinson.  She received her nursing degree from Marshall University, followed by her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Ohio State University and her Doctorate of Education from West Virginia University.  Judy began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse, after which she became an instructor at St. Mary’s School of Nursing, followed by her tenure as Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Nursing at Marshall University.  After retirement, Judy served her community through her volunteer work at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, Ebenezer Medical Outreach (where she was named Volunteer of the Year in 2013), and Hospice of Huntington.  More importantly than her accomplished career, Judy was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. 

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 58 years, Joe Sortet, for whom she lovingly cared throughout his struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. 

Judy is survived by her children, Richard Todd (Phoebe) Sortet of Rock Hill, S.C., and Jill Sortet (Ronald) Adkins of Huntington; grandchildren, Sam Adkins (Natalie Saber) and Garrett Adkins (fiancé Nichole Westfall) of Huntington, Kate Sortet of Spartanburg, S.C., and Erica Sortet (fiancé Nathan McIntyre) of Charlotte, N.C.; and a brother-in-law, Randy Sortet (Brenda Warren) of Huntington.

Judy’s family would like to thank her extensive team of doctors and caregivers at The Ohio State James Cancer Hospital, Huntington Internal Medicine Group, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Marshall Health, and Hospice of Huntington for the care she has received over the past two years.
