Nancy Terrill “Terri” Effingham, 80, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January10th at (time TBD) at Highlawn Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Sharon Bell officiating.
Terri was born June 28, 1945, in Huntington, WV, the daughter of the late Clifford and Bernice Brown Effingham. She lived her life with quiet compassion, dedication, and a deep love for her community. She retired from the Cabell County Board of Education, having taught at Huntington East High School; Ona Junior High and Middle School; and Beverly Hills Junior High and Middle School. She also served as Assistant Principal at Beverly Hills Middle School.
She was a faithful and active member of Highlawn Presbyterian Church and a former member of Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, where her servant’s heart was evident in all she did. Terri was instrumental in establishing and volunteering for the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry and was a member of the Beverly Hills Garden Club. Everyone who knew Terri quickly recognized her deep compassion for animals. She devoted countless hours to fostering and caring for cats and was a dedicated and loving volunteer with the Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter.
She is survived by her loving family, who will forever cherish her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support: her sister and brother-in-law, Anne “Libby” and David Haught of Huntington; her brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Maureen Effingham of Ona, WV; her niece, Krista Denning and husband Jim Denvir; her nephew, Matthew Haught and wife Jennifer; a great-niece, Claire Denning; and a great-nephew, Tucker Denning. She is also survived by her special friends, the Cutright family and Dr. Elaine Young, along with a host of friends and former co-workers.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter or Highlawn Presbyterian Church.
