William L. Ward, 87, of Huntington, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at home with his family surrounding him.  Born September 26, 1929 in Huntington, he was a son of the late Raymond Theodore Ward and Louellen Warner Ward.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dearly loved mother and father-in-law, Sylvia Legge Luthy and Maurice Henry Luthy; his infant brother Billy, and sister-in-law Mildred Ward.  Bill was retired from INCO Alloys International.  He was a proud Navy Veteran who loved his country and served during the Korean Conflict.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #9738 in Guyandotte, and was an avid fan of Marshall University.  Bill coached Little League 5 baseball and helped to organize youth football in the East Huntington area where he coached, organized, umpired and did whatever was needed for many years.  He was loved, respected and seen as a father figure.  To many, he was still known as “Coach Ward”.  He was a joyous family man with a cheerful personality who never met a stranger.  Bill is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 66 years, Sharon Luthy Ward; his children, Rick (Mavis) Ward, Cinda (Kevin) Kahl, and Brent (Patty) Ward; siblings, Jim (Gloria) Ward, and his twin brother Bob Ward; brother and sister-in-laws, Maurice (Donna) Luthy, Karen (Jerry) McIntyre, Sheila (Charles) Cooper, Tama (Clyde) Powers; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of dear family and friends.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Scott Duncan, officiating.  The family will welcome friends at 11:00 AM prior to the service.  Burial with Military honors will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Huntington.
