Sylvia Logan

Sylvia Logan, 84, beloved sister of Anne Imperi, left this world for a better one on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Born on July 20, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late William and Helen Alexander. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, “Bill” and “Jim” Alexander. Sylvia’s life was full and colorful- from being the Arthur Murray Dance Competition winner for doing the Cha-Cha in San Francisco to being a copywriter in New York City. She graduated from the University of Michigan, taught school for a few years and then left for Scotland where she attended the University of Edinburgh summer school. Her travels included Paris, Spain, Greece, Crete and Mexico. Sylvia’s life was lived between California and New York City. When in New York, she worked for Holt, Winston & Rinehart publishers and The New Yorker magazine. When she moved to Malibu, California, she published a number of articles and poems. She also learned the art of photography, developing many pictures in her own dark room as it was done in the old days. Along with her God-given talents, she had a compassion for the lost, the downtrodden, the forlorn and the hopeless, all of whom she helped when she could. In her later years, she returned to Grand Rapids. As Sylvia’s health declined, she was helped by her brother Jim, the extended Alexander family, and especially her niece, Darla, who was a true guardian angel that met her every want and need. We are forever grateful. Sylvia is survived by her sister, Anne; sister-in-law, Helen, and the numerous Imperi and Alexander nephews and nieces as well as their children and grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Paul Yuenger, officiating.
