Swanson G. “Robbie” Roberts, 95 years young, passed away on September 21, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Amy Hope Douthat Roberts for over 69 years. He is survived by his children, Kathryn Roberts Copley of Huntington and Stephen G. Roberts (Anne) of Charleston, WV; five granddaughters, Kathryn “Rynnie” Ross Cotter (Scott) of Bethesda, MD, Katelyn Copley Duncan (Donald) of Huntington and Elizabeth “Callie” Roberts House, Kathryn Casto (Shane), and Sarah Hicks (Nathan) of Charleston; six great-grandchildren Andrew Roberts Warner, Eli Dodge Duncan, Poppy Hope Cotter, Carter Douthat House, Piper Hope Duncan, Charlotte Elizabeth House, a step-great-granddaughter Emma Cotter, and a step-great-grandson Kane Casto. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Stratton L. Douthat (Gail) of Plainfield, VT. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence E. Roberts and Elsie Duckworth Roberts, brother L. E. Roberts Jr., sister Nedra Carroll, and grandson Stephen Douthat Roberts. Born in Gassaway, WV on March 2, 1926, he was a U.S. Army veteran and attended Marshall University. While employed with Westinghouse Electric Corporation he worked in Huntington, Detroit, Miami, Atlanta, Tampa, and Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. He and his wife enjoyed traveling internationally and their winter home in Summerfield, FL. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, crossword puzzles, bird-watching, reading, playing bridge, his bridge buddies, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family thanks the staff members at The Woodlands for their many kindnesses, and the healthcare providers at Cabell Huntington Hospital for their care and concern. In-lieu-of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cabell County Public Library - Gallaher Village Branch, The Woodlands Employee Assistance Fund, or Hospice of Huntington. Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, a celebration of life will be held at a later date. We will love you and miss you forever, Papa.
