John Stuart Cordingley

John Stuart Cordingley passed away on December 12, 2018, at his home in Huntington, WV. John was born May 22, 1953 to Doreen Hoyle and Francis Cordingley in Keighley, West Yorks, England. John loved his native England, and spoke often of the Yorkshire moors, steam trains, pubs, and bilberries. John earned his bachelor's degree in Zoology from The University of St. Andrew’s and a Ph.D. from the University of Essex. His university days were highlighted by his involvement with the British folk scene where he played guitar and sang traditional music. He became a fellow of Darwin College at Cambridge in England, and later moved to the U.S. for a research fellowship at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts. He was an assistant professor at the University of Wyoming, and later a research scientist at Merck & Co, Pennsylvania. He was an avid reader and loved hiking and skiing in the Wyoming mountains and windsurfing on the lakes. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Caren Trzyna, and their children Avery Frances Cordingley and Adam Christopher Cordingley. He is also survived by his mother, Doreen Cordingley, of England; a brother, Michael Cordingley and his wife, Janet, and two nephews, Connor and Neil; a mother- and father-in-law Patricia and Daniel Trzyna of Chicago; and sister-in-law Lorain Trzyna. John suffered for many years with Multiple Sclerosis and died peacefully at his home after finally losing his battle with the illness.
