John, born on December 31, 1947, in Charleston, W.Va., was not just a son of the late T. Wendell and June E. Carpenter. He was a devoted single father who raised his daughters with love and care. His sacrifices during his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War were a testament to his dedication.
He was a long-term Veterans advocate, but to Melissa and Jennifer, he was their personal advocate and protector. John served as the past Commander of VFW Post 1064 and the DAV, Chapter 2 of Huntington, remaining a beloved member throughout his life. He was also a member of VFW Post 9738, American Legion Post 16 of Huntington, and Loyal Order of the Cooties. John retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many devoted years.
To his daughters, John's greatest achievements were not in his public service but in the love and support he provided to them. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and the knowledge that he was a father who will always be cherished and missed.
In addition to his daughters, John is survived by his siblings, James Carpenter and Barbara Ashby, both of Florida, 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
