Betty Bourne Owens

Betty Bourne Owens, 93, passed into the arms of Jesus on September 16, 2023 at Paramount Senior Living in Ona, WV after a prolonged illness.  She was born in New Hampshire and her fondest childhood memories were visiting her paternal grandfather’s (Bampi) house during the summers.  She met her husband of over 50 years, William T. Owens, Sr., at a church service in Montgomery, WV. 

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her younger son, Steven E. Owens, and her only sibling, Jacqueline Campbell.  She is survived by her older son, William T. Owens, Jr., her two daughters in law, Janine and Marsha and her four grandchildren, Kara (Brian) Mayle, Christa (Dennis) Gabriel, Nicholas (Ashley) Owens and Adam Owens.

Betty worked at St. Mary’s Hospital for over 20 years in the bookkeeping department.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society and a long-time member of Highlawn Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church and a member of New Baptist Church.  Her favorite vacation destination was Wrightsville Beach, NC.  She loved riding the waves and being in the ocean.  Once she mused about being a surfer girl.  Betty loved dogs and her favorites were Honey Baby, Smoky, Willie and Kody.  She had several friendships that lasted for decades (Ruby Hayton, Debbie Justice, Ana Williams, Tanya and Charlotte).  Alaska was her dream vacation spot.  She was a fan of MU football, Elvis and Squire Parsons.  One of her favorite TV shows was The Honeymooners and her favorite celebrity was Shirley Temple.

A special thank you to the Paramount aides and nurses, and Becky, and the Hospice workers who cared for her.  Betty was the best mother a son could possibly have and the finest human being anyone could ever meet. 

The Funeral Service will be at Beard Mortuary in Huntington at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 27th with a Graveside Service afterwards at Woodmere Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to the service.
