William Danford (Danny) Egnor, age 82 of Huntington, W.Va., passed away on the 2nd day of July, 2024.
Danny was married to Debra Egnor and last resided with his wife at the Woodlands Retirement Community. He was a lifelong Huntingtonian. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, William Danford Egnor, II (Deena) and three grandsons, Conley, Kelly and Ford Egnor. He also is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Wolfe and Theresa Jacobs. His parents, Ray Dallas Egnor and Spicie McMellon Egnor, predeceased Danny as did two brothers, Jack N. Egnor and Robert Egnor, as well as two sisters, Virginia Ruth (Dagmar) Egnor and Phyllisa Jean Egnor. The Egnor family would like to thank the assisted living staff at the Woodlands for their services provided to Danny.
Danny's early years were spent in the Guyandotte area, but when his sister, Dagmar, became famous, she purchased a home for the family in the Westmoreland area of Huntington. Danny graduated from Vinson High School Class of 1959, and played varsity basketball. Upon graduation, he enrolled in Marshall University where he graduated in 1963. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity. Danny enrolled at WVU Law School and received the Frank Bliss Enslow Scholarship. His brother, Jack, had previously been a recipient of this scholarship. After graduation from law school, Danny returned to Huntington and soon became Assistant City Attorney for the City of Huntington as well as having a private practice. He eventually formed a law partnership with David Lockwood (Lockwood & Egnor) and practiced real estate and domestic law for many years. Danny last practiced law with Flynn, Max, Miller and Miller and retired in 2020.
Danny loved Huntington and Marshall University. For many years, he was an active member of The Big Green Scholarship Foundation and served a term as its President. He was the ultimate Marshall sports fan and never missed a home football or basketball game and travelled to many away games. To see him on the sidelines of an away game would not be an unusual sighting. Besides Marshall sports, Danny's other passion was golf. He was a key member of a group of golfers who often travelled in the US and Caribbean to play golf. Danny was a member of the Guyan Golf and Country Club, and was a proud two time winner of the Hawkins Match Play Tournament.
There will be no funeral services. However, there will be a Celebration of Life to be held on the 11th day of August, 2024 from 3-5 P.M. at the Guyan Golf and Country Club. Those wishing to make a charitable contribution in Dan's memory, please make the check payable to The Big Green Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 1360, Huntington, WV 25715.
