Verlin J. Hughes, Sr.

Verlin J. Hughes, Sr., 83, of Huntington, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 19, 2008 in St. Mary's Medical Center.  Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Beard Mortuary with Rev. Buddy Muncy officiating.  Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Huntington.  He was born May 7, 1925 in Huntington, a son of the late Walter and Cora Wroten Hughes.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Violet Jane Rowe Hughes; and his son, Walter Thomas Hughes.  He attended Rock of Ages Baptist Church.  He loved to fish, visit the flea market, and go to the Fairfield East Senior Citizens Center.  He is survived by his children, Patricia A. and William Ramey of Ona, Verlin, Jr. and Bonnie Hughes of Guyandotte, and David Allen Hughes, Sr. of Lesage; daughter-in-law, Jennie Hughes of Princeton; two brothers, Floyd and Vada Hughes of Ona, and Walter Daniel and Connie Hughes of Guyadotte; 14 grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Shawn, Debbie, John, Martha, Kari, Michelle, Robert, Jennifer, David Allen, Kesha, Stephanie, and Tyler; 12 great grandchildren, Damian, Carissa, Chloe, Alex, Kristi Lynn, Beau, Austin, Kathryn Grace, Carter, Kylie, Chance, and Alexis.  Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Beard Mortuary.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.beardmortuary.com.
