Therese Iris Tweel

Therese Iris Tweel, 89, of Chesapeake, VA, formerly of Huntington, passed away on July 25, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Kathryn L. Schaum, in Chesapeake, VA. Born on June 14, 1929 in Huntington, she was a daughter of the late Opal Steele Spaulding. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. "Bob" Tweel; and sisters, Doris Mae Short, Sally J. Shelton and Jacqueline Brinkerhoff. Therese graduated from Huntington High School and later attended Marshall University. She went on to work for Marshall until her retirement in 1993. Therese was active in several community organizations throughout the years, but her main interests focused on Highlawn Presbyterian Church where she served as Elder and Clerk of the Session for two terms. She was also moderator of Presbyterian Women at Highlawn and secretary of Presbyterian Women of West Virginia. Therese is survived by her daughters, Kathryn L. (Richard) Schaum of Chesapeake, VA and Karen S. (Joseph) McConaghy of Naples, FL; sister, Suzanne High of Barboursville; brother-in-law, Dr. Harry (Marianne) Tweel of Harmony, FL, and several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Rick Wilson and Jean Meredith, co-officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington. The family will welcome friends at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Highlawn Presbyterian Church in Huntington.
