Sebren Brooks Dean

April 21, 1920 — June 20, 2008

Sebren Brooks Dean, 88, of Huntington passed away Friday, June 20, 2008 at Woodlands  Retirement Community.  He was born April 21, 1920 in Huntington, WV a son of the late Levi and Susie Webb Dean.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Hagan Dean.  He was the senior partner in the architectural firm of Dean and Dean Architects.  Dean and Dean designed many local buildings and several on Marshall University Campus including The Memorial Student Center, Smith Hall Complex, Addition to James E. Morrow Library, Harris Hall, Corbly Hall, and the Student Christian Center.  He was past member of the Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries, Board of Directors of Cabell Huntington Hospital , member of the Huntington Rotary, National Who's Who, American Institute of Architects, and involved in Boy Scouts of America.  He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church where he served as President of the Board of Trustees for many years and also served as a deacon.  He was a U.S. Army and Navy pilot and flight instructor serving in World War II.  He was an avid fisherman, loved to dance, and spent a lot of his time inventing things such as the PassPort (a patient lifting device) and Perfect Park.  He will be sadly missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Dillard of Gilbert, Arizona; brother, E. Keith Dean of Huntington; grandchildren, Brooks Dillard, Morgan Beatty, and Chase Dillard; great grandchildren, Rhys Dillard and Logan Beatty; and his dear friend, Merle Willey.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM, Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. Funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Reasons officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.  Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.beardmortuary.com.  The family requests donations be made to Fifth Avenue Baptist Church or Hospice of Huntington.
