SARA KING DAUGHERTY RIDENOUR (Sally), or Miss Sally as she was affectionately called, passed away at midnight on Thursday, February 26th, 2009 at the age of 96. Born in Curwensville, Pa., to Dr. Hiram O. King and Mrs. Gertrude Carrier King, Sally attended local schools while playing the piano for the local movie theatre for silent films. She attended Maryland College for Women and later, Mansfield State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. Sally and her husband, William F. Daugherty "Bill" raised their family in Huntington, W.Va., where they were charter members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, and she was President of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, local PTAs and Garden Clubs. Years later, after the passing of her husband, Bill, and getting her teaching degree, she taught at Our Lady of Fatima School for six years. Later she married Pryce Ridenour and after a few years in Huntington, they moved to Merritt Island, Fla. She and Mr. Ridenour moved to Merritt Island for a few years. After the death of Mr. Ridenour, Mrs. Ridenour continued to reside in Florida for many years, being a member of Our Savior Catholic Church in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and local bowling leagues. In 1999, Sally moved to Hilton Head Island, S.C., to the home of of her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Dan Brown. She later was a resident of The Seabrook and Fraser Health Care Center there on the island. Mrs. Ridenour is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Olive King Cassler and Elizabeth King Turney, and a brother, Dr. Orville King; husbands William F. Daugherty and Pryce R. Ridenour. She is survived by three children, Elizabeth Daugherty Brown "Betsy" in Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island, S.C., James F. Daugherty of St. Louis, Mo., and Barbara Daugherty Grimm of Plymouth, Minn., and grandchildren Todd D. Brown of Spottsylvania, Va., Christopher W. Brown of Arlington, Va., Michelle Daugherty Kriete of O'Fallon, Mo., Sean Daugherty and Tony Daugherty of St. Louis, Mo., and J.D. Grimm of Minneapolis, Minn.; great-grandchildren Carol Anne, Erin Louise and Sean Daniel Brown of Spottsylvania, Va., Alexis, William, Zachery and Makaela Kriete of O'Fallon, Mo., and Jack William and George Daniel Brown of Arlington, Va. She also leaves three nieces and a nephew, Mrs. Margie Montgomery, Mrs. Becky Gueswein, Miss Mary Emm and Mr. Robert Emm of Huntington, and Barboursville, W.Va. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Huntington, with interment to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, W.Va.
