Samuel McKelvey Dick, 56, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away on October 3, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 21, 1968, Sam was a lifelong resident of Huntington, a community he deeply cherished. To know Sam was to be greeted with a radiant smile and a warm embrace that instantly felt like home. His playful, joyful spirit and quick wit brought laughter to every gathering, making him a beloved figure to all who knew him. Being loved by Sam was a profound gift, leaving an indelible mark on family and friends. An avid lover of the outdoors, Sam found solace running at Ritter Park and meticulously tending to his and his mother's yard and garden. His compassion extended to all living creatures; he rescued animals from roadsides and gently carried insects outside rather than harming them, a testament to his kind and gentle nature. A proud alumnus of Marshall University, Sam dedicated nearly 30 years as an Account Manager at Brechbuhler Scales, Inc., in Nitro, West Virginia. He considered his colleagues family, forging strong relationships through his meticulous care and steadfast commitment. Guided by his philosophy, "If you don't take care of the customer, somebody else will," Sam's approach to work mirrored his devotion to those he loved. Sam is survived by his devoted parents, Richard and Linda McKelvey Dick; his sister, Amy (Mike) Barber, and their children, Brett Barber, Abby Farley, Chloe Barber, and Audrey Barber; his brother, Jason (Sarah) Dick, and their children, Jeremy McKelvey, Lindsay McKelvey, and Benjamin McKelvey; a cherished extended family of four great-nieces and one great-nephew, all of whom adored their "Uncle Sam"; and two special aunts, Debbie Chinn and Gigi McKelvey, as well as too many friends to list! In accordance with Sam's wishes, a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Beard Mortuary on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. The family will greet friends beforehand from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. To honor Sam's memory in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Cabell-Wayne Animal Shelter (https://hcwanimalshelter.com/donation/). Sam's life was a testament to kindness, humor, love, and resilience. His spirit endures in the laughter he inspired, the animals he protected, the people he cherished, and the lush landscapes he held dear.
Please leave an online condolence for Sam's family on his tribute wall.
