Ruth Fisher

November 28, 1918 — March 31, 2013

RUTH C. FISHER, 94 of Huntington, went to Heaven on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Woodlands Retirement Community, where she lived for the past 16 years.   It was Ruth's wish to be cremated and a Graveside Memorial Service is being planned for Saturday, April 20th at Woodmere Cemetery. Ruth (fondly remembered as Mimi) was born November 28, 1918, in Jackson County, WV, the oldest daughter of the late Arthur A. and Amanda Murrey Coe.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph A. Fisher.  Ruth and Ralph were active members of Highlawn Baptist Church for nearly 50 years, where she served as Deaconess and Church Historian and Librarian.  After Ralph passed in October 2000, Ruth became a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Ruth began her teaching career at the age of 18 in a one-room schoolhouse in Sandyville, WV.  She chose to be a stay-at-home Mom while the boys were little.  She retired from the Cabell County School System after 25 years in the classroom, mostly in Special Education. Survivors include an only sister and brother-in-law, Vernon & Bobbie C. Fisher (only sisters married only brothers - small family dinners) of Ripley, WV, son Dr. R. Alan & wife Mary Grace Fisher of Tallulah Falls, GA, son James A. & wife Sherry Fisher of Waukegan, IL, three grandchildren,  Mary Alisa Gober of Lawrenceville, GA, Josh & Joey Fisher of Waukegan, IL, two great-grandchildren,  Katelin and Nichole, one great-great granddaughter, Gia, only nephew Rob Fisher of Ripley, WV and only niece Dee Shockley of Clarksburg, WV. A special thank you is extended to Woodlands Healthcare for their outstanding love and care.  Both Ralph and Ruth were very active in the Huntington Camp of Gideons International where Ruth was a member of the Gideons Auxiliary.  In lieu of flowers, it is suggested memorial contributions be made to Gideons International, which donates Bibles all over the world,  at www.gideons.org
