Rocky Reed Crawford

December 9, 1949 — January 20, 2025

Huntington

Rocky Reed Crawford, 75 of Huntington, WV, passed away Monday, January 20, 2025 at Madison Park Healthcare in Huntington with his daughter and sister by his side. He was born December 9, 1949 in Maysville, KY to the late Orville Eugene and Velma Jean Crawford.

Rocky spent his childhood in Flemingsburg, KY, where he still has many friends. He graduated from Fleming County High School, where he was a trumpet player in their band. He briefly attended Morehead State University before entering the U.S. Navy. Rocky was a Vietnam Veteran and served as a Yeoman. He also played trumpet for the Navy, playing TAPS at the end of every day. After his discharge, he continued his education at Morehead State University where he later graduated with a bachelor's degree. He was also a part of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and brotherhood.

In the late 1970's, Rocky moved to the Ceredo-Kenova area. He ended up making C-K his home and starting a family. From the late 70's through the late 80's, Rocky played slow pitch softball for several teams at Barr Field in Huntington. He also managed the Missing Link retail store in the Ceredo Plaza toward the late 1970's before working many years for American Home Foods as a sales representative. Throughout his career, he spent hours on the road working as a sales representative, finally retiring from Ashland Specialty around 2013. Post-retirement, Rocky enjoyed his days golfing.

Rocky was an avid sports enthusiast and big fan of the University of Kentucky men's basketball program. He was very involved in his community, as well as in his daughter's life and activities. He was a passionate coach for several of Ceredo-Kenova's T-Ball, Minor League and Little League baseball teams for several years, including the years when his daughter Casey Jo was playing. After his daughter graduated from Spring Valley High School in 2005, Rocky still attended sporting events and kept up with the community. When his daughter started playing softball for West Virginia State University, he and his wife Jill would drive for hours to watch her play and were fans of the competitive teams she played on and coached for in the future. In Rocky's later years, he enjoyed singing in the choir and playing bingo at Madison Park Healthcare where he truly loved and appreciated the staff.

Rocky is survived by his daughter, Casey Jo Crawford of Barboursville, WV; sister, Cinda (Rodes) Brown of Lexington, KY and nieces and nephews, Alex Simpson, Jay Simpson, Railey Testerman, Jimmy Belknap, Jodie (Belknap) Lucas, Kelly (Belknap) Espy and Leslie (Belknap) Davis.

Because of his love of both his childhood and current communities, two services will be held. A Memorial Service will be at 1 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Legacy Church in Huntington. The family will greet friends beforehand from 11-1 PM. Following the service, friends and family are invited to continue celebrating his life at Willie's at the Paddock, 440 8th Ave W., Huntington.

A Celebration of Life will also be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 12 to 2 PM at the Flemingsburg Christian Church in Flemingsburg, KY.
