Robert “Bob” Charles Griffin, 79, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Cabell Huntington Hospital after a long and courageous battle with ALS/PLS. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Beard Mortuary with Pastor David Lemming officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and burial will follow the services, in Woodmere Memorial Park.
He was born November 30, 1946, in Huntington, WV, the son of the late Charles Fred and Shirley Faye Daugherty Griffin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joy Marie Garren Griffin; his sister, Kathleen Griffin; stepmother, Ruth N. Griffin; mother-in-law, Annabelle Marie Garren; and a nephew.
Bob devoted his life to education and service. He retired from the Wayne County Board of Education after an incredible 50-year career, teaching at Dunlow, Buffalo, and Lavalette Elementary Schools. Even after retirement, his dedication to students and learning continued as he served as a substitute teacher for several more years. His kindness, patience, and steady presence left a lasting impression on generations of students and colleagues.
A faithful and active member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, Bob lived his life grounded in faith, compassion, and service to others. He was also a former member of the Lions Club and enjoyed the friendships and fellowship he shared through the years. Despite the challenges of ALS/PLS, he faced each day with courage, strength, and grace.
He is survived by his two sons, Alex Griffin of Huntington and Cody (Lilly) Griffin of Chesapeake, OH; his brother, James (Peyton) Griffin of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Mark (Patricia) Garren of Teays Valley, WV; three nieces, two nephews; and a special friend and devoted caregiver, Joyce Jenkins, whose care and companionship meant so much to him and his family.
In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to the ALS Association, 1919 University Ave. W., Suite 175, St. Paul, MN 55104, or to Lewis Memorial Baptist Church, 1358 W. Pea Ridge Rd., Huntington, WV 25705.
