Rick S. Rakes

Rick S. Rakes, 59 of South Point, OH entered into his heavenly home on Monday December 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born July 8, 1949 in Huntington, WV a son the late Darrell D. Rakes, Sr. and Betty Jo Sager Rakes Siple. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Darrell D. Rakes, Jr. and two sisters, Connie G. Rakes and Trudy Rakes Siple. He was formerly Business Manager of The Daily Independent of Ashland and was also a member of the International Newspaper Financial Executives. Since 1988, he also served as Administrator of the charity, The Needy Families Fund. He was a member of Westmoreland Baptist Church where he had previously served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, Usher and on various church committees. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Meredith L. Rakes, two daughters and sons-in-law, Nicole (Kevin) Wilson of Huntington and Tracie and Orin Runyon of South Point; three grandsons, Kaleb Wilson of Huntington and Dawson and Tanner Runyon of South Point; a niece, Miranda Adkins and nephews, Josh Siple, Isaiah Rakes and David Rakes and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Norma Scarberry of Huntington. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 PM at Westmoreland Baptist Church with Rev. C.J. Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park.
