Greg attended Woodberry Forest School, where he made steadfast friends, Washington and Lee University, and the University of Virginia School of Law. He also had the good fortune to attend Gonville and Caius College of Cambridge University, England, where he received a diploma in Legal Studies and made lifelong friends with whom he visited and stayed in contact through the years.
He began his practice of law in 1959 with the firm co-founded by his father: Campbell, McNeer, Woods, Bagley, and Emerson. Before his retirement in 2006, he was a member of the Cabell County Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar (Board of Governors 1980-1983), the West Virginia Bar Association (President 1984) and American Bar Association; Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, West Virginia Board of Law Examiners (1980-1987, President 1987), admitted to the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia, the United States District Court, Southern District of West Virginia, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
He was an honorable and well-noted litigator. His phrase, "Let me ask you a question," could strike fear even in family members.
An avid and gifted golfer and former club champion, he treasured the friends he made on the courses they played together.
A devoted and caring husband to his wife for the more than thirty years they were married, he was the consummate gentleman, who loved his family, his friends, his dogs, and eighteen-year-old Highland Park. He was a good man, as his brother said, "the finest." We will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12 at 1:00 at Trinity Episcopal Church, where he was a lifelong member. Visitation will be from 11:00-1:00in the Church, with interment immediately afterwards in the Columbarium at Trinity.
