Richard Lee Bennett, 79 of Proctorville, OH, passed away February 2, 2024 at The Wyngate at RiversEdge in Proctorville. He was born September 21, 1944 in San Francisco, CA to Ernest Fitzhugh and Doreen (Casto) Bennett.
Growing up spending summers on his family's farm, he developed a huge love of animals and nature that he maintained throughout his life. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. Richard loved photography and even created a dark room in his home. For many years, Richard worked as a Head Grocery Clerk for Kroger and during that time, he also did advertising for Gramling Specialty Advertising. Later he earned a Master's Degree and went on to teach Geography at Marshall University. He had finally found his niche and true passion. Richard was also on the board of the Huntington Mounted Police Commission, which was very important to him. Until his stroke in 2001, he was heavily involved in our community as well as his family's lives, who he loved very much, and would've continued to do so if he had been able to.
Richard is survived by his wife, Suzanne Bennett of Proctorville; daughters, Robin Bennett of Proctorville and Rebecca (Stephen Demski, Jr.) Knipp of Williamsport, MD; grandchildren, Joshua Bennett, Juan Perez, Winter Knipp, Van Knipp, Maya Perez, Griffin Knipp and Iliana Perez; great grandson, Alias Perez (son of Juan); brother, Lyle B. (Jackie) Bennett of Dunbar, WV and nephew and niece, Derrick (Jessica) Bennett and Tiffany (Benjamin) Bennett Sadler.
A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 11 AM at Beard Mortuary with Pastor John Minihan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Huntington.
