Regena "Gina" Sue (Sargent) Hesson

November 8, 1970 — October 18, 2024

Barboursville

Regena "Gina" Sue Hesson, age 53, of Barboursville, WV, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. Gina was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, known for her dynamic personality, incredible sense of humor, and unshakeable strength. She is survived by her beloved mother Erma Sargent, loving husband Scott Hesson, daughter Kat Hesson-Hicks, son-in-law Jacob Hicks, and many other cherished family members, including: Ashley and Will Glass, Matthew Hesson, Debbie and Skip Heighton, Teresa and Eddie Melvin, Sherri and Chris Stamper, Steve and Sandy Sargent, Robert and Vonda Sargent, Marilyn and Charles Oppenheimer, and Jay Foreman, as well as many nieces, nephews, and her best friend of 13 years Marco, her snuggly Maltese.

She is preceded in death by her father, Ervin Sargent, and her sister, Sandy Sargent-Foreman.

Gina was born in Ashland, KY, and was a 1988 graduate of Russell High School. She worked as a radio disc jockey on several stations including 93.7 The Dawg, where her energetic spirit shined, and she later worked as a legal secretary. A dedicated member of First United Methodist Church in Barboursville, she revived the Sunday school program alongside Pastor Kerry Bart, led the Children's Moment during service, and served as the church's Missions Director, spearheading community outreach programs that brought her great joy.

She felt a deep connection to animals, ocean life, and a good milkshake, and the only thing she enjoyed more than a beach trip was her family. Wrapping gifts with care and creativity was just one of the many small, special touches she used to indicate her depth of attention to loved ones. She was never one to boast about her many accomplishments, which included a 4.0 GPA from Marshall University and extensive charity work. Her family will forever remember her for that humility, along with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.

Gina is now reunited with her father, Ervin, and her sister, Sandy. While her family's hearts are broken, they find strength in the knowledge that heaven has gained an extraordinary woman.

No services are scheduled at this time. The family kindly asks for your remembrance, thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time.
