Huntington

Huntington, WV — Paul Brooks, 89, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2025, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was a proud and loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and neighbor. Born and raised in Huntington, WV in 1935, he built a life rooted in hard work, love and family. Paul's dedication extended to his community, where his life of service touched many. He served for years as a supervisor with the water company before becoming a devoted civil servant and retiring after 26 years as a mail clerk with the United States Postal Service. Paul and his wife were members of the former Highlawn Methodist Church. In his earlier years, he served in the National Guard, and was a member of the Jaycee's, where he was always contributing to his community with steadfast commitment.

Paul's greatest legacy, however, was his almost 70-year marriage to his beloved wife, Joan, with whom he shared a bond of enduring love and happiness. Together, they raised three daughters Kimberly (and Sherman) Nicholas of Huntington, Chari (and, the late, Harry) Harmon and Paula (and Chuck) Dolin. He was a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren, Adam Harmon, Brooke Nicholas, Olivia (and Raphael) Bird, Stephanie Watson, and Elijah Watson, who all loved him dearly.

A hardworking man with a sharp sense of humor, Paul found joy in working with his hands, whether tinkering on projects or working in the yard. His quick wit and hearty laugh brought warmth to those around him, leaving lasting memories for family and friends.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Emma Mae and Everett "Pete" Brooks and one brother, Carl Brooks. He is survived by his wife, Joan, and two sisters Lois DeMattie and Rita Brooks.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Paul's heart, at www.stjude.org/donate. Paul's legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him and he will always be greatly loved and missed by his entire family.
