Obituary

Patricia Ann Smith, 86, of Lesage, WV, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Emogene Dolin Hospice House.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Entombment will follow.

She was born July 1, 1939, in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Jess Dial and Thelma Riley Hanshaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, General Lee Smith; her daughter, Crystal Gilbert Ferguson; and her granddaughter, Natasha Strathman.

Pat retired from Hayflich and Steinberg after 26 years of dedicated service, where she formed lasting friendships and was known for her strong work ethic. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church for many years and found comfort and strength in her faith throughout her life.

Pat had a deep love for the game of golf and spent many happy days on the course at Riviera Golf Course, where she enjoyed not only the game but the camaraderie and friendships it brought her. She will be remembered for her warm heart, her love of family, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures.

She is survived by her loving sons, Lawrence Strathman of Lesage, WV, and Sean (Athanasia) Smith of Charlotte, NC; her cherished grandchildren, Christopher Strathman, Gary “Trey” Gilbert III, Cassandra Walker, Pablo Smith, Nicholas Smith, Sebastian Smith, and Christina Roe; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Sophia and Maci Strathman, Indi and Irie Cassell, Abigail Roe, and Zephyr Walker, each of whom brought her immense joy. She also leaves behind many dear friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and who will miss her deeply.

Over the years, Pat formed a special and lasting bond with Dr. Bir and his family. She lovingly referred to him as her “other son,” a reflection of the deep affection and trust they shared. Her family is truly grateful for this meaningful friendship and for the compassionate care he provided.

Pat’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Huntington for the kindness and care shown to her in her final days.

Please leave an online condolence for Pat's family on her guestbook.
