Mrs. Maxine Kay (Plumley) Baur

July 14, 1937 — February 2, 2018

Mrs. Maxine Kay (Plumley) Baur, 80 of Huntington, WV, passed away on February 2, 2018 in Kansas City, KS after battling complications associated to previously undiagnosed ALS. She was born on July 14, 1937 in Price, West Virginia, to the late Molta and Grace Plumley. Maxine was the loving and devoted wife of the late Dr. Jack H. Baur. She was also preceded in death by a step son, Don Baur; brothers, Jim Plumley, Feltham Plumley, Bernard Plumley, Russel Plumley, Marvin Plumley, and Kendrel Plumley and sisters, June Plumley, Delores Grant and Virginia "Jenny" Shevell. Maxine graduated from Chesapeake High School and Huntington Junior College. She was a homemaker and dedicated volunteer.  Maxine is loved and survived by her daughter, Angela Carrico (James) Fain; stepsons, Jay (Phyllis) Baur and Tom(Judy) Baur; stepdaughter, Jane (Gene) Roberts; grandchildren, Eric (Brooke) Fain, Erin Fain (Reinaldo) Swift, Elizabeth Fain (Dustin) Allen, Lindsay (Jon) Casto, Sarah Roberts, Steve (Ellie) Baur, Dan (Katie) Baur, Marc Baur, Michael Baur, and Jill Baur Dunn; a number of great-grandchildren including Angela Swift and Kaine Allen. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Juanita Plumley, cousins Diana Cremeans and Barbara Simpkins, and a host of friends. She had a passion for quilting, gardening, traveling, and family. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution Buford Chapter and served as treasurer; a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter M; The Woman's Club of Huntington; WV State Medical Association Alliance; and the Cabell County Medical Society Alliance Scholarship Fund. She held many positions and several offices while serving in these organizations. Maxine was tough, kind, thoughtful and caring. She was determined, realistic and independent. She had high expectations and high standards. She was self-sacrificing and never gave up. She loved her friends and family dearly and will be deeply missed. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 21st. at 9:30 followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Porterfield officiating. Inurnment will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Marshall University Foundation for the Cabell County Medical Alliance Scholarship/ Attn: Linda Holmes, 1600 Medical Center Drive, Huntington, WV 25701.
