Mary C. Slater Jarrell

Mary C. Slater Jarrell, 88 of Huntington, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017 at her daughter's home in Durham, NC. Born on July 12, 1929 in Cabell County, she was a daughter of the late John Harrison Slater and Lela Morrison Slater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude W. Jarrell; one brother, John Slater, Jr., and sisters-in-laws, Mary and Charlene. Mary found the most joy when she was surrounded by family. She was also an avid traveler. When able to combine family and travel, Mary was at her happiest. She is survived by her son, Greg (Diane) Jarrell of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughters, Cindy (Jim) Knapp of Durham, NC, Claudia Tighe of Acworth, GA, and Mary Lou (Greg) Sims of Ona, WV; sisters, Wanda Doss and Rose Robertson; grandchildren, Chad Jarrell, Sarah Beck, Annie Jones, Ashley Hardman, Megan Kinney, Erika Tighe and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Pastor Ken Toler, officiating. Burial will follow at Woodmere Memorial Park in Huntington. The family will welcome friends at 12:30 P.M. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Noah Staker, a dear neighbor and friend who treated their mother Mary as his own.
