It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marilyn Ruth Johnson (Stewart) on March 20, 2025, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Born on May 11, 1935, in Louisa, Kentucky, Marilyn dedicated her life to serving others with unwavering commitment.
Throughout her remarkable journey, Marilyn supported her husband, Dr. Milan H. Johnson, in his pastoral ministry for over 40 years, serving in American Baptist Churches in Indiana, West Virginia, Ohio and Arizona. Simultaneously, she pursued a distinguished career as a nursing executive for four decades, leaving a lasting impact on the healthcare industry.
Marilyn's educational achievements include graduating from Ashland High School, obtaining her R.N. Degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing, and earning a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from Thomas Moore University. Her professional tenure as an Intensive Care Nurse and Chief Nursing Officer in various healthcare facilities exemplified her dedication to excellence.
Marilyn's family members preceding her in death, Milan Johnson, her beloved husband of 52 years, a son Michael David, a son Norman Todd, a daughter Tasha Faye Vatistas, her birth mother Leona VanHorne, her parents Frederick A. and Eloise Stewart, a sister Roma Jean Morgan, all welcomed her last week. Her continued legacy endures through her son Dr. Frederick W. Johnson (Tracy) of Green Bay, Wisconsin, twelve grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Nana."
Known for her grace and unwavering faith, Marilyn navigated life's challenges with resilience and purpose, inspiring those around her. Her joyful spirit will be dearly missed, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A public viewing to celebrate Marilyn's life will take place on Tuesday, April 1st, at Beard Mortuary in Huntington from 9:30-11:00, followed by a service honoring her at 11:00. The final resting place for Marilyn will be beside her husband Milan and son Todd at Woodmere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent on behalf of the Marilyn Johnson Nursing Leadership Scholarship Fund, C/O The InitiativeOne Leadership Institute, 110 S.
