Lucille Anna Hefner, 87, of Huntington, WV was reunited in heaven with her late husband Charles Russell Hefner, on June 16, 2025, the day of their 71st wedding anniversary. She was born August 15, 1937, in Ronceverte, WV to the late Earl Ray and Catherine Lucille Sams. She was preceded in death by sisters Joyce (Jack) Wickline and Sue (John) Perry, sisters-in-law, Jackie Sams and Betty Cook, brother-in-law Bob Hefner, niece Becky Wickline, and nephew Nathan Sams. She retired from River Valley Child Development Services and was a long-time member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she held many positions over the years with a special passion for children's ministries. She lived her life by the motto "It is better to give than to receive" and truly believed her Heavenly reward was more important than earthly possessions. She is survived by a daughter Renee Kessinger, son-in-law, Mark Kessinger, son Russell Hefner, son-in-law, Richard Lawson, grandchildren, Cason Kessinger (Erin) and Sasha Kessinger, sister Ruth Starr (Richard), brothers Earl "Sonny" Sams (Louise), Barry Sams (Mary), Orville Sams (Sandra), Robert Sams (Debra), Roger Sams (Jenny), Doug Sams (Bernetta), and John Sams, honorary son, Steve Heaberlin, in-laws who she considered as her own siblings Hilda Cockerham and Dessie Cockerham, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children who all looked up to her as the matriarch of the family. A family memorial will take place July 4, 2025, at 6:00pm during the Sams Family Reunion in Fort Springs, WV by the Greenbrier River that she loved so much. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday July 6, 2025, at 3:00 pm at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Phillip Starr officiating. The family will receive friends after 2:00 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to First Church of the Nazarene Children's Ministries or Hospice of Huntington who helped make her transition a peaceful one.
