Linda Lou Ours Wright, 84, of Huntington, WV and Hollywood, FL passed away Monday, March 3, 2025. Linda was preceded in death by her parents Gerald Eli Ours and Mary Louise Ours (McDade) of Huntington. Linda loved her parents and had wonderful memories of growing up on a farm with her mom and Aunts while her dad was in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. When her dad returned from the war and her brother Lynn arrived shortly after, Linda tried to sell her brother for a rabbit. It didn't work - a good thing too, because Lynn is a great brother. Linda inherited her father's stubbornness and it sure worked for her - she was a cat with more than nine lives and lived every one of them.
She is survived by her two daughters and their families; Kerry Kribbs (Jack) and grandchildren Benton Kribbs (Caroline) and Jenny Kribbs and Michelle Wright and grandson's Nicholas Malanga and Matthew Malanga. As the eldest, Kerry is definitely the more responsible child and kept Linda around for at least six of those lives. Michelle, being the youngest, probably contributed to a few of those lives being shortened.
She is also survived by her brother Lynn Ours (Bev), nephew Jon (Kerri) and children, and niece Christa Nuckols. Her extended family includes Maj. General & Mrs. George Bush & cousins Susan and Jane Bush, Harold & Garnet Johnson and cousin Charles, Kelly & Thelma Kellenberger with cousin Greg, and Gilbert & Mabel McDade with cousin Betty. Her life-long friends are Vicki Stark, Patricia "Gail" Dillon, Joyce Johnson, and Libby Wallace. We don't have room for all the fun stories these ladies could tell.
Linda was previously married to David Wright of Huntington, WV whom she knew since elementary school. She was later the fiancée of Stewart Brown of Hollywood, FL. She and Stu loved dancing the night away, going out to dinner, and having a family bbq every Sunday. We hope you and Stu are dancing together right now.
Linda was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, including 9th Ave Methodist and Community of Grace, UMC of Huntington, WV and the United Methodist Church of Miramar, FL. We're hoping that gives her an "in" to the pearly gates. She deserves to be there.
Linda attended Huntington East High School, Class of 1959 and earned her BA in Physical Education & Business from Marshall University, Class of 1963. She knew she wanted to be a PE teacher in the 4th grade and loved working with young adults. She made her dream come true and was a PE and business teacher for 40 years. She taught at Chesapeake and Fairland schools in OH for 5 years and 35 years at McArthur High School in Hollywood, FL. She also served as the Assistant Athletic Director for 12 years and Varsity Cheerleading Coach for 3 years at McArthur. Stu was the Athletic Director and you can be sure they had a great time together.
Linda enjoyed helping others and was able to serve through joining Beta Sigma Phi in 1961. She was recently inducted into the Diamond Circle for celebrating 60 years in Beta Sigma Phi. She held every office as well as being named "Sister of the Year" many times. One year, out of 21 chapters, she won the title "Ms. Hollywood." You go girl. Beta Sigma Phi gave her immense joy and friendships. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 89, Huntington, WV.
Visitation is Tues. March 11, 2025 from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with a service held directly after at Beard Mortuary, 3001 3rd Ave, Huntington, WV 25702.
