Julia “Judy” Beard Gibson, 85 of Chesapeake, OH, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026 at The Wyngate at RiversEdge Senior Living Community in Proctorville. She was born August 20, 1941 in Huntington to the late Gilbert and Fern Beard of Burlington, OH.

Judy married James D. Gibson on March 24, 1962 in Burlington, OH and they spent many wonderful years together before his passing in 2020.

Judy worked at Marshall University in the Registrar’s office as the Head Registrar’s Clerk for 35 years. She loved antiquing and traveling.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sister-in-law, Charles Beard and Thomas (Priscilla) Beard, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Gilberta (James) Ferguson, Jane (Karl) Tyree and Bert Lester. Judy is survived by her children, James Victor (Janette R.) Gibson of Lanexa, VA and Todd Arlynn (Ronda Lynn) Gibson of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Rachelle (Skylar) Needre of Lanexa, Ashley (Clinton) Colliver of Lexington, KY, James Ryan Gibson of Virginia Beach, VA, Ashley (Trevor) Wert of Charlestown, IN, Justin Walters of Greenville, IN and Jeremy Walters of Portsmouth, OH; great-grandchildren, Sterling and Grace Needre of Lanexa, Clark Colliver of Lexington, Connor Pratt and Adalynn Wert, both of Charlestown, Reese Walters of Portsmouth and Isla Walters of Greenville; sister, Sally Lester of Proctorville, and sister-in-law, Betty Beard.
