IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce M.
Ruth
September 15, 1927 – March 11, 2026
True to fashion and on her own terms, Joyce M. Ruth (98), left this world on March 11, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Born September 15, 1927 in Spokane, Washington to Joseph and Ida Powell, she was the last surviving of her five siblings.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Gene Ruth. Together, they owned and operated Wise Jewelers in Huntington, West Virginia for the majority of their nearly 45-year career in the jewelry industry. Joyce was known to her friends and family as an avid bridge and card player, where her sharp mind and playful spirit were always on display. Upon retiring to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1994 she became a member of Bear Creek Golf Club, enjoyed daily walks around her neighborhood, and often had her nose buried in a book. Quite possibly though, her favorite times were when family visited regularly in the summer months.
She is survived by a son, Gregg (Gladys Wojcik), a daughter, Lisa Krasnow, her grandchildren, Jordan (Ryan) Hunt, Katie (Joel) Welch, Nile (Jenna) Ruth, and Nash Ruth, as well as two great-grandsons, Nash Hunt and Beau Welch.
Those who knew her would unanimously agree, they just don’t make them like her, anymore. She was a keen sports fan and follower who consistently kept up with golf, tennis, football and basketball. She might have even had her own Draft Kings account. She loved dogs, especially her most recent bed and dinner companion, Simon. She lived life with her own special flair and kept everyone on their toes in the best way possible.
Her final days were made better and sweeter by her most dependable regular visitor, resident chicken and dumpling maker and donut supplier - Bob Mitchell. The family owes a special debt of gratitude to her devoted caregivers who faithfully tended to her over the last fifteen months: Sue Brumfield, Jill Cook and Jacki Shaffer for their exceptional care. In addition, they hold a special place in their hearts for her beloved Hospice Nurse, Lisa Valentine.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in her honor to the Huntington Cabell Wayne Animal Shelter or to Hospice of Huntington. There will be no formal services. Beard Mortuary is caring for the family. Please leave an online condolence for her family at www.beardmortuary.com.
