Joseph B. "Joe" Amsbary, Sr.

Joseph Byrd "Joe" Amsbary, Sr., 81, of Huntington, WV passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Mary's Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Monseigneur Dean Borgmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Born on July 30, 1937 in Huntington, WV, Joe was the son of the late Margaret and Loren ("Jake") Amsbary. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael.  He is survived by his wife Jenny  Hollandsworth Amsbary, three sons, Jake and wife Kimberly of Lake Bluff, IL; Tim and wife Michelle of Reston, VA; and Paul and wife Jen of Hinesburg, VT; grandchildren Ella Amsbary of Atlanta, GA;  Joseph and Caroline Amsbary of Reston, VA; and Magner and Eliza Amsbary of Hinesburg, VT; sisters Joanna and husband John Brennan of Richmond, VA; Margaret and husband John McGarrity of Charleston, WV; brother David and wife Ann of Huntington, WV; and several nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, VA, and Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Together with his father and brother, Joe owned and managed Amsbary-Johnson Clothing Store, a local haberdashery until its closing in 1987 when he joined First State Bank as a mortgage loan officer. An avid golfer, Joe was a member of the Guyan Golf and Country Club, Gypsy Club and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.beardmortuary.com.
