John R. Guthrie

John R. Guthrie, 73, of Huntington, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009 at his residence.  A memorial service will be held from 4 – 6 pm on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at 2820 N. Staunton Road, Huntington, WV.  He was born August 14, 1935 in Chesapeake, OH, a son of the late John V. and Phyllis M. Ransbottom Guthrie.  Mr. Guthrie attended Barboursville High School.  He served in the US Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and was an active member of the American Legion Post 16, the VFW Post 1064 and the DAV, Huntington.  He was a retired painter with the Painters Union Local 813. He is survived by two sisters, Drema S. Sexton of Huntington and Deanna D. Ryder and her husband, Duane of Maine; three brothers, Michael C. Guthrie and his wife, Karen of Cincinnati, OH, Patrick L. Guthrie and his wife, Ingrid of Huntington and Richard E. Guthrie of Huntington; four children; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
