John Paul Childers, Jr.

August 17, 1926 — May 20, 2007

John Paul Childers, Jr., 80, of Huntington died on Sunday, May 20, 2007.  Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, with Dr. Joe Shreve and Dr. Emerson Wood officiating.  Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.  He was born August 17, 1926 in Huntington, a son of the late J. Paul and Thelma Lowry Childers.  He was also preceded in death by one son, John Childers and one stepdaughter, Pauline Smith.  A graduate of Marshall University, John was a former owner of Childers Construction Company.  He was also a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was on the Board of Stewards and taught generations of young people in Sunday school.  He also served on the Board of Directors at Goodwill Industries, a member of the City Club, Guyan Golf and Country Club and was active in the Tri-State Building Trades.  He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Wilkinson Childers; three sons, Burke Childers and his wife Donetta of Huntington, Richard Childers and his wife, Diana of Charlotte, NC and David Childers and his wife, Kathy of Huntington; three stepchildren, Jack Nistendirk and his wife, Vee of Huntington, Robert Nistendirk and his wife, Sandy of Charleston and Louanne Moore of Huntington; one sister, Carolyn Emerson and her husband, Gordon of Huntington; 13 grandchildren, Mark and Doug Childers, Jonathan and Megan Childers, Michael, Kari and Todd Childers, T.C. Smith, Ann Nistendirk, Tess and Derek Moore and John and Jordan Nistendirk.  Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
