Jeffrey Edward Furbank, 77, of Huntington, WV, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born in Astoria, New York on April 30, 1947, son of the late Edward Harry Furbank and Patricia Caroline Hughes Furbank. A graduate of the United States Military Academy, Jeff served our country for 25 years as an officer in the US Army. A few highlights of his extraordinary career include: battery commander in Germany with the 32nd AADCOM, battery commander in Korea with the 38th Brigade, English professor at West Point, where he taught the first ever class of female cadets, another tour in Germany with the 32nd AADCOM where he served as Secretary of the General Staff and battalion commander, Army Staff in the Pentagon as Chief of Special Actions Branch where he was responsible for media relations and was liaison with members of congress, Patriot Missile Battalion Commander and Assistant TRADOC Systems Manager for Patriot at Fort Bliss, Texas. His final tour was at the Pentagon where he served as Director of External Affairs for the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (Star Wars), again as liaison with members of congress and media relations. When he retired from the Army, the congressman from the district in New York where Jeff was born, Thomas J. Manton, read a commendation on the floor of the US House of Representatives, congratulating Jeff for his distinguished career. That speech can be found in the Congressional Record from March 17, 1994. Following his Army career, Jeff earned an MBA from George Mason University. After graduation he accepted the job as Executive Director for the Huddleston Bolen law firm in Huntington, WV. Mentoring young people brought Jeff great joy throughout his career. He made a positive difference in the lives of countless numbers of soldiers during his army career, his staff during his time at Huddleston Bolen, and even young people he met at the gym, where he was a workout warrior until the day he died. Jeff is survived by his fiancée Kristie Contardi (Finney), his brother, Christopher Furbank, his sister, Cynthia Blanchard, and three children, Roy Furbank, Caroline Hughes Lowe, and Erin Furbank.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jeff's life will be held at Beard Mortuary on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Please leave an online condolence for the family on Jeff's tribute wall.
