Jean E. (Weed) Backus

Jean E. Weed Backus, 98 of Huntington, WV passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Woodlands Retirement Community. She was born March 2, 1926, in Huntington, WV daughter of the late Harry Edwin and Christiana Jane Tschop.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by two brothers, Edwin "Bud" Tschop and Kenneth Lee Tschop, Sr. Jean was also preceded by her husband of almost 50 years, Ronald Weed. Later in life she married Richard Backus and together they moved to Woodlands where she continued to live after his death. She was an active member and secretary for many years for the former Highlawn United Methodist Church, now Community of Grace. She also attended First United Methodist Church with her husband, Richard. She lived a long, happy and healthy life and lived life to the fullest. She was a very social person and enjoyed participating in many activities with her friends. She was a former Candy Striper and volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital for 30 years. Jean is now in the arms of God and surrounded by those she loves who went before her.

She leaves behind her children, Dr. Ronald Weed and wife, Jean of Atlanta, GA; Rebecca Adkins and husband, Karl of Huntington and Judith Gannon and husband, Gratton of Maryland; grandchildren, Robin (Mark) Hannula of North Carolina; Anne Blevins of Tampa, FL; and Sarah Gannon of Maryland; two great grandchildren, Joey Riso and Nic Riso and great-great grandsons, Leo and Keplar and several nieces and nephews. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Community of Grace United Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church.
