James Henry “Jimmy” Farrington, 85, of Huntington, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Huntington. He was born July 19, 1940, in Columbus, OH, to the late Robert and Catherine Farrington.
Jimmy graduated from Fairland High School in 1959. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska.
After his service to the country, he worked as a machinist at the Nickel Plant until retirement.
He had a lifelong love of the outdoors and spent his free time fishing, boating, kayaking and hunting. He was also an award-winning archer.
Jimmy was an avid gardener, an interest he acquired from an early age, helping at his parents’ greenhouse in Proctorville, where they grew the most beautiful flowers, specializing in orchids. They supplied flowers to many local florists.
Jimmy was active in St. Joseph church; he was a member of the choir and enjoyed spending time with his church family. He often volunteered his talents, providing maintenance to the church and school property. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Farrington; brother, Thomas Farrington of Missouri, and Mary Katherine of Salem, OR. He is survived by his faithful companion and friend of many years, Pat Carter of Chesapeake, OH; his cousin, Kathy Moran of Huntington, with whom he shared a lifetime of family memories, as well as long-time friends, Jim McCartney of Milledgeville, GA, and former co-worker and walking buddy Don of Huntington.
Jimmy was a man of integrity and deep faith. He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and his lifelong dedication to family and community. He taught us the value of doing what’s right. May his Irish eyes be forever smiling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Msgr. Dean Borgmeyer presiding. Interment will follow, in Spring Hill Cemetery.
