GREGORY WAYNE ADKINS, 58, of Huntington, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 at his residence. He was born on April 24, 1957 in Huntington, a son of the late Norman E. Adkins and Julia Dabney Adkins, who survives. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Adkins; his paternal grandparents, Hugh S. and  Myrtle Smith Adkins; and his maternal grandparents, Kenneth W. and Helen Poffenbarger Dabney . In addition to his mother he is survived by his sisters, Susan Smith of Baltimore, MD and Reverend Jill (Rick) Jenkins of Atlanta, GA.; nieces, Maggie Jenkins and Julia Smith; and nephews, Jack Jenkins and Ross Smith. Greg was a 1975 graduate of Huntington East High School and remained forever a proud Highlander. His wide-ranging creative gifts were on display in his artwork, decorating, and especially his gardening. He loved music and sang his way beautifully through the day. There was no one more entertaining than Greg: outgoing, witty, joyful, funny, vivacious. He could talk to anyone - and did. He was a dog-lover as well as a people-lover. Greg worked previously at family-owned Adkins Transfer and at Speedway. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Beard Mortuary, Huntington with Rev. Jill Jenkins officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the mortuary. A private family burial will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens on Wednesday.
