Obituary

Gary Vindar Lambert, 80, of Huntington, West Virginia, peacefully departed this life at home on April 20, 2026, and was welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior.

Born May 5, 1945, in Huntington, Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Katherine Lambert, and his sister, Patricia Hunt (Pat).

Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 50 years, Brenda Nasser; his children, Frank Lambert (Eugenia) and Amy Weaver (Eric); and his grandchildren, Cory Lambert (Marcela), Katie Manoni (Jacob), Taylor Webb (Ian), and Morgan Looney (Garrett). He was also deeply loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Gary graduated from Huntington East High School in 1963 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Morris Harvey College. He proudly served in the United States Navy, including time aboard the USS Enterprise. He continued a life of service as a Huntington police officer and later as a West Virginia State Trooper.

Throughout his distinguished career in public safety, Gary also held various roles with Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation and the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), ultimately retiring as an employee of the State of California.

Outside of work, Gary found joy in spending time with family, traveling the world with Brenda, participating in athletics (basketball, marathon running, golf and more), brewing a cup of strong coffee and sprinkling loving but direct wisdom into conversation.

Gary’s life was marked by deep faith, steadfast love for his family, and a generous spirit. Despite a years-long battle with cancer, he lived fully and courageously and will be remembered for his devotion to God and neighbor, his charitable heart, and his commitment to those he loved.

The family will be forever grateful for the care provided by the teams at the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Cabell Huntington Hospital – especially the oncology staff. They are also deeply appreciative of the compassion and attentiveness shown by his caregivers, the medical staff and the dietary and nutrition support team at Woodlands Assisted Living, whose kindness and patience did not go unnoticed.

A private service will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to charities Gary supported, such as Tunnels to Towers, the American Cancer Society and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Please leave an online condolence for Gary’s family on his guestbook.
