Elsie Mae Saunders, 99 of Huntington, WV passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at her daughter-in-law's home in Ashland, KY. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Beard Mortuary with Pastor Tim Arthur officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends after 1:00 p.m. She was born May 1, 1918 in Huntington, WV the daughter of the late Frank W. and Nancy Baumgardner Brown. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Saunders, son, H. Donald Saunders, grandson, Douglas A. Saunders, brother, Frank W. Brown, Jr. and three sisters, Bernice Effingham, Virginia Elkins and infant sister, Carol Louise Brown, and beloved brother-in-law, Clifford (Ikey) Effingham. Elsie became a member of the Twenty-Six Street Baptist Church in 1931, where she enjoyed the fellowship of friends in the quilting Ministry and Golden Age groups; she sang in the choir and volunteered in the Sunday School for many years. Elsie read her Bible every morning and lived a Christian life. Elsie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joyce Saunders, Ashland, KY; three grandchildren, Donald B. (Stella) Saunders of Shorewood, IL; Elaine (Stephen) Schwartz of Richmond, KY; and N. Elizabeth Saunders, Dowell, IL; three great-grandchildren, Lee M. Collins, Kathleen Saunders and Nicholas Saunders. Her nieces and nephew, Terri Effingham, Libby (David) Haught and Tim (Maureen) Effingham were like her own children. She is also survived by nieces and nephew, Sharon (David) Claffey, Barbara (Fred) Wells, David (Donna) Willis, Dan and Fred Elkins and a special friend, Eve Fiorilli. The family would like to express a special thank you to Ashland Community Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Twenty-Six Street Baptist Church or a charity of one's choice.
