Elmer Paul Shilling, 86, of Ona, WV passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Elmer was born on October 1, 1922 in Hemlock, OH, a son to the late George and Viola Shilling. He was preceded in death by one sister, Margo Jones. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Volland of Selah, WA; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren all of Selah, WA; one brother in law, Bill Jones of Huntington, WV; and two very special friends, Joyce and Susy Kyle of Huntington, WV. Mr. Shilling was a proud WW II veteran of the United States Army where he served as an Army Ranger Scout in France on D-Day. He retired as a conductor for the C & O Railroad and spent much of his time maintaining the vans for the Highlawn Baptist Church in Huntington of which he was a member. He also sang in the Prime Time Choir and often performed solos. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Highlawn Baptist Church in Huntington, WV with Rev. Matthew McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Huntington. Friends may call on Monday, July 6, 2009 from 6 – 8 PM at Beard Mortuary in Huntington.
