DOROTHY COLTRANE JENKINS, 95, of Huntington, WV, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at The Woodlands in Huntington. Dorothy was born May 30, 1928, in Jacksonville, FL, daughter of the late J. Wiley Coltrane and Eva Hollingsworth Coltrane. She is survived by her sister, Betty Sue Johnson (Harold) of High Point, NC. Dorothy raised three sons and spent countless hours as a Red Cross volunteer in South Florida and at animal shelters in the communities she lived in. Dorothy was a concert trained pianist, teacher, actress, lifelong learner, and enjoyed a life of travel. She took to the skies as a student pilot and explored coral reefs around the world as a certified scuba diver. She was educated at Greensboro College, Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William & Mary, and the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and earned a Masters in Speech Communications from Marshall University. She taught piano at Hockaday School in Dallas, TX, and St. Anne's in Charlottesville, VA. She was a member of the Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church, Key Biscayne, FL, and the First Presbyterian Church, Huntington. Dorothy is survived by her three loving sons John E. Jenkins, III (Stephanie) of Raleigh, NC, James C. Jenkins of West Palm Beach, FL, and Evan H. Jenkins (Elizabeth) of Huntington; seven grandchildren, John IV, Amanda (Peter), Colt, Edward (Leighton), Hollin, Charles, Olivia; one great-grandchild, Anna; and nieces Mimi and Holly and nephew Hal. Entombment next to her mother and father was held at Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum in High Point, NC. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.beardmortuary.com.
