DONALD DANIEL "Donnie" McMILLIAN, 62, of Huntington, W.Va., passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, at Beard Mortuary, Huntington, W.Va. Service and burial will be held Monday Jan. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville, Ohio, with Mike Pinkerman, brother-in-law officiating. Donnie was born Sept. 26, 1947 in Huntington to the late Harry McMillian and Eleanor Ferguson McMillian. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Gloria Jean McMillian, Brenda Gaile Carrico and brothers, Thomas Edwin McMillian and Steven Paul McMillian. He is survived by two sisters Barbara Spears of Springboro, Ohio and Diana Pinkerman of Columbus, Ohio, and brothers Lee McMillian of South Point, Ohio, Jack McMillian of Chesapeake, Ohio, Jerald McMillian of Proctorville, Ohio, James McMillian of Chesapeake, Ohio, Richard McMillian of South Point, Ohio and Kevin McMillian of South Point, Ohio. Donnie was also loved and adored by many nieces and nephews. He was a noted author of many books including The House of Woolworth, Their Stunning Financial Windfalls, Their Riveting Emotional Pitfalls, Splendor, Historic Homes & Families, The Underground Railroad: Lawrence County, Ohio and Cabell County, Virginia and The Very Best: West Virginia's 55 Counties and several others, all available on Amazon.com. He also wrote an editorial in The Herald-Dispatch weekly on historic homes. Previously, he was employed as an interior decorator for Burdines in Boca Raton, Fla., and the Holtsenheimer's Interior Design in Palm Beach, Fla. He worked for several years for the Woolworth family in Palm Beach, Fla., and returned to Huntington out of his love for the place of his birth and became a well known local author and writer. He was also instrumental in having the Huntington Court House Dome repaired and repainted, which helped bring life back to the city he loved. He will be sadly missed by all of his loved ones, family and friends. He was a wonderful man and loved by many, we will sincerely miss him, but we are sure God will open his heavenly arms to him.
