Connie Lynn
Maxey
Jul 13, 1951 — May 26, 2026
Connie Lynn Maxey, 74 of Columbus, OH, previously from Huntington, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026. She was born July 13, 1951 in Huntington to the late Betty Shull Byrom and John Byrom, Jr.
Connie was a business owner, owning a construction company with her second husband, and then later owned bars before she retired.
She spent most of her adult life in the Columbus area where she planted her marigolds every summer. In more recent years, Connie tried tomatoes each year and seemed to not ever have any luck, but would always try again. She loved to cook and eat a good home cooked meal.
She loved her rocking chair, spending most of her time in it no matter how much it squeaked, always with a pop within arm’s reach. She was always fiddling in her purse and would have her comb ready.
Connie was an avid couponer that was always going to find the best deal. She would wait to purchase items on her wait list until she found the perfect sale, like it was a challenge, even if it meant waiting a year. She loved thrift store shopping, flea markets and yard sales and absolutely loved to grocery shop. She would be in the store looking at everything for hours “for fun”.
Connie also loved to travel and did so every chance she got, even if she went solo. She loved the beach. Moving to Myrtle Beach, she stayed right on the main strip on the water for many years and made several new friends there.
She was a country music fan, especially Conway Twitty and Randy Travis, as well as a fan of Nascar…until Jeff Gordon retired…He was her guy!
If you gave her a picture of the grandkids, it stayed up forever as if they never aged. She never replaced them, only added to them. Connie was not good at taking pictures and hated people taking pictures of her, but wanted to make sure she got one of you in front of the tree every year. She was sassy and could be really funny. Her spunk will be missed greatly.
Connie wouldn’t ask for anything, even when she should have. She didn’t want to inconvenience anyone. She was a tough one, hard headed to the core. Connie was determined to stay independent. There was no changing that. Her “acts of love” were gift giving. She didn’t know how to buy “a” Christmas present - she bought you 30 of them instead. And, she was always trying to send you home with something. Or if she thought you were having financial struggles, she always wanted to help if she could.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Lanny and Danny Byrom, and sister, Branda Maxey. Connie is survived by her children, Larry (Robyn) Beal, Teresa Beal and Jeffrey (Caila) Maxey; grandchildren, Kourtney (Jacob) McMillen, Tyler (Amanda) Richardson, Mackenzie Beal, Logan Maxey, Evan Beal and Brexton Maxey; step grandchildren, Caidence and Reilly Hoops; great-grandchildren, Violet and Luke McMillen, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and family.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Beard Mortuary with Visitation beforehand from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the services, in Culloden Cemetery. Please leave a condolence for Connie’s family on her guestbook.
