Cheryl Lee Johnson

Cheryl Lee Johnson, 69, of Barboursville, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 in Heartland of Riverview, South Point, Ohio. She was born Jan. 10, 1948, a daughter of the late Chester Lee Elwood Johnson and Ruth Imogene (Stewart) Johnson. Cheryl graduated from Clay High School in Portsmouth, Ohio in 1965, and earned multiple degrees from Marshall University. She was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and achieved the designation of Certified Safety Professional. She retired in 2008 after a long career serving the best interests, health and safety of employees across West Virginia, including roles in the Division of Labor, Labor Studies & Research and the Institute for Safety & Health Training at West Virginia University. Cheryl was a member of the First Guyandotte Baptist Church in Huntington, which she attended with her uncle, Jack Stewart of Lesage, W.Va. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017 at Beard Mortuary with Pastor Paris McSweeney, officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
