Charles Edward Romine

Charles Edward Romine, 80, of Huntington died peacefully on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House after a brave battle with lung cancer.  He was born in Spencer, WV, a son of the late Dorsey C. and Ruby Hudkins Romine.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Alice Romine; a daughter, Cathy R. Long, MD and her husband, Jim T. Long, Jr., MD of Franklin, NC; a son, Thomas L. Romine and his wife, Joanna P. Romine of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Long of Syracuse, NY, Carrie Mae Long of Franklin, NC and Benjamin Thomas Romine of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Alice Mace of Spencer, WV; a brother-in-law, C.E. "Chuck" Romine and his wife, Phyllis Romine of Huntington; a sister-in-law, Ruth L. "Judy" Ashley of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ and several nieces and nephews.  Charles was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of Beverly Hills United Methodist Church.  He was a graduate of Spencer High School, attended Mountain State College in Parkersburg and Huntington School of Business.  He was a retired operations manager for Anderson Newcomb Company and Stone and Thomas Company.  Charles was a professional photographer and avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, camping and gardening.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  It was his wish to be cremated.  There will be no visitation.  A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Huntington, 1101 6th Ave.; Huntington, WV  25701 to further the comfort of patients who are fortunate enough to receive care from this wonderful organization.  Beard Mortuary is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be sent at www.beardmortuary.com
