Charles C. Owens, Jr.

Charles C. Owens, Jr., 82, of Huntington passed away Monday, June 1, 2009 in Hospice House of Huntington.  Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Huntington.  Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park, Huntington.  He was born June 19, 1926, a son of the late Chester and Georgia Crawford Owens.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Ann Moeser Owens.  Mr. Owens was an active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.  He was a Physical Education and Science teacher for a number of years, then, he became a Guidance Counselor at Beverly Hills Jr. High School for 25 years.  He has been substitute teaching in Cabell County for 20 years.  Mr. Owens was an avid bowler and loved to dance.  He was also a member of the YMCA.  He enjoyed going to dinner and the movies with his special friend, Jean Brown.  He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Tammy Owens of Huntington and Greg and Beth Owens of Mansfield, OH; one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Dennis Nibert of Huntington; seven grandchildren, Dr. Dallas Nibert of Huntington, Sunny Patton and her husband, Brian of Barboursville, Nathan Nibert of Huntington, Philip Owens of Huntington, Chris Owens of Huntington, Evan Owens of Mansfield, OH and Savannah Owens of Mansfield, OH; one brother, Bob and Tina Owens of Kailua Kona, Hawaii.  Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Beard Mortuary, Huntington and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church – 5700 Route 60 East; Huntington, WV  25705.  Online condolences may be sent at www.beardmortuary.com
