Dayhoff
Sep 8, 1933 — Sep 6, 2026
Carl Lester Dayhoff, 92 of Huntington, WV went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Crossroads United Methodist Church with Rev. Dustin McCune officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 – 1:00 on Saturday. Burial will be private for the family on Monday at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
Carl was born September 8, 1933, in Huntington, the son of the late Chester Stanley and Elizabeth Coleman Dayhoff. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister-in-law, Donald and JoAnn Dayhoff, and Lyle Dayhoff.
Carl was a talented person who did a lot of different things in life. In High School he played football and was even offered a college scholarship. He also had a very fast 100 yard dash and he played the cello. In 1954 he joined the Air Force and worked in communication and security. He loved to tap out Morse code. After the Air Force, Carl went to Marshall where he majored in Music and met the love of his life, Annabel Patrick. They were married their senior year and played beautiful music throughout their entire marriage.
Carl did many things. He was a teacher for about 30 years, and he also taught himself to be a piano tuner. He also wrote poetry and loved to take pictures. He served in the church, first as a song leader, then as a deacon and an elder and at one point pastored a church in Florida. He never stopped praying for people. First and foremost he was always a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, a wonderful husband and a loving father and grandfather (Gappy) and great grandfather. He was a friend to all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Annabel Patrick Dayhoff; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mac Key of Bullard, TX and Becky and Doug Davis of Martinton, IL; son Thomas “Tommy” Dayhoff of Huntington; sister, Ruth Ann Dayhoff of St. Mary’s, WV; and sister-in-law Mary Dayhoff (Lyle) of Little Hocking, OH. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Brandi (Daniel), Chad, Lydia (Joel), Tommy, (Hannah) Sarah (Sam), Carissa (Kyle) and LeeAnna (Joshua), and 8 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and church family.
Those who wish may give memorial contributions to Cross Roads United Methodist Church or Hospice of Huntington.
Please leave a condolence for Carl's family on his guestbook.
