Gwendine Lambiotte

September 14, 1928 ~ March 9, 2014 (age 85) 85 Years Old
Gwendine Nelson Lambiotte, 85, passed away quietly at Emogene Dolin Hospice House. She was always a very kind and giving person who had unconditional love for God, her husband, her son, family and friends. Gwen, as she was known by her close friends and family, was born and lived her entire life in West Virginia. Gwen was quite the busy young woman, working hard, never stopping, while growing up mostly in Huntington, WV. She was very active in school projects, modeling for the nicest womens clothing stores in Huntington and working for her father, while also helping her mother keep her younger and sometimes even older siblings in line. She graduated from Huntington East High School in 1946 and Marshall College in 1948 with an associates degree in accounting. In 1953 she married Edward Joseph Lambiotte of Huntington, 1958 built her first and only home with her husband Ed and in 1960 had her only child, son, Shawn. Gwen spent her first 25 years of married life diligently taking care of her husband, son, home and parents, working full time as a book keeper for 14 years with Try-Me Transfer Moving Co. in downtown Huntington. Throughout those 25 years she also helped manage her fathers home building business, R. L. Nelson Co. She worked with her father until his death in 1977. Gwen successfully made a move into real estate with her sister Brenda in 1974, working for Zema Jones Realty Co. and Real Estate Professionals until 1990. Yes...Gwen was always busy, working very hard, always taking care of loved ones, always there when needed and truly loving every minute of it. Loving people and taking care of ones in need was always paramount to Gwen. She never said no to anyone, especially family. She loved the sun, sunbathing, planting flowers every spring on her back patio and house front. She loved keeping her beautiful home spic and span. She adored her husband and son, her music, dancing, loved watching dance and ice skating competitions. She so enjoyed her swings and rocking chairs and oh yes, fashion, she loved looking good. Anyone who knew her knew her by her wardrobe.  Last but not least, Gwen loved her Marshall Thundering Herd. She and her sister Bea, for 16 straight seasons, were football season ticket holders, she so loved football season in Huntington. In those 16 years, she only missed 4 games. Her home office is filled with Marshall pictures, prints and memorabilia. She was a true Thundering Herd fan. Gwendine is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years Edward J. Lambiotte, parents, Robert L. and Mary E. Nelson, 3 brothers, Howard, Gene and Glenn Nelson, 2 sisters, Brenda Nelson Hanshaw and Beatrice (Bea) Nelson Orr. She is lovingly remembered by her son Shawn Edward Lambiotte, 2 brothers, Bill and Ralph Nelson, many nieces, nephews, the Nelson and Lambiotte families and her many friends. She will be truly missed. Shawn, Bill and Ralph would like to express their love and thanks to all of their family members and friends. Also, to Dr. Ralph Stevens, the staff at Hospice House and especially Gwen's beautiful caregivers of these past two years; Connie Magann, Amy McClure, Cathy Curtis, Wilda Maynard and Ilona Abbott. Very special thank you from Shawn goes to Kathryn A. Nord for her always ever giving love. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
